YM155, a novel small-molecule inhibitor, can inhibit survivin (a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family). YM155 suppressed expression of survivin and induced apoptosis in PC-3 and PPC-1 human HRPC cell lines at 10 nM. YM155 can inhibit the growth of five human HRPC cell lines with mutated or truncated p53 with mutated or truncated p53 in vitro. As survivin plays an important role in drug resistance and cancer cell survival in many types of cance, YM155 can reverses drug resistance.
