1． 昆虫激素和昆虫信息素
从事昆虫信息素的结构鉴定(亚毫微克级水平)、合成及应用。鉴定了棉红铃虫性信息素中两组分的比例，首次发现了雌棉红铃虫在交配后释放一种抑制剂来阻止与雄虫再次交配的有趣现象；鉴定了枣粘虫性信息素的结构，为枣粘虫种属的归类从化学信息上提供了证据；鉴定了桑毛虫性信息素的结构为异戊酸酯，这在昆虫信息素中是首次发现；与北大生物系合作，对我国六种透翅蛾的信息素在触毛感受器的水平上进行研究；同加拿大科学家合作，对难度相当大的有光学活性的桑树害虫桑尺蠖的信息素结构进行了鉴定；确定了舞毒蛾、松干蚧和库蚊对其性信息素或产卵引诱信息素的手性识别现象。
2． 不对称合成、手性天然产物的结构与合成研究
参与了Sharpless氧化反应体系中加入CaH2和硅胶，能加速反应的进程而不影响光学收率的发现；发展了环氧醇的原位开环并用此合成一系列多羟基胺，多羟基氮、硫杂环，以及多羟基Sphingosin类化合物；用分子内开环的方法合成多羟基季碳氨基酸sphingofugin E和F；开展手征性的阻旋联芳烃化合物的合成(包括不对称合成)；首次确定了5个天然产物的绝对构型，同时也纠正了文献中的错误；发现了用Ni(0)/NaH/Zn/PPh3新的反应体系，用于芳基和烯基卤化物偶联。其特点是对有空间位阻和羧基取代碘苯的偶联有优势；发现该体系中加入Bu4NI可以减少底物的脱卤副反应，最高偶联反应产率达97%；成功地利用SmI2合成一系列a,g,g-三取代丁内酯产物的对映选择性达99%e.e.，进而又实现了手性质子源的试剂控制不对称诱导；应用不对称合成及有关的方法，合成了甲砜霉素，氟康尼以及其它数个手性药物化合物。
3． 氧化还原酶与羟腈化酶生物催化
通过与李祖义教授合作，从土壤中筛选出有自主知识产权的氧化还原酶G.38，其特点是：许多酶和酵母还原羰基遵循的是Prelog规则，而G.38非但活性高，且能将羰基按反-Prelog模式还原成羟基；合成了一种角甲基骈六元、五元双环双酮新合成子；合成了5个药物化合物，具有开发价值。发现了羟氰化粗酶在常规有机溶剂中催化合成手性氰醇的微水相体系(不用有机-水相缓冲剂)，筛选到4个高活性的新(R)-醇氰酶源。该体系有开发前景。
